Po Delta Park, 3 good reasons to love it
Situated in the Province of Ferrara in Emilia-Romagna, the Po Delta Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important natural areas in Europe. It boasts such varied and marked elements of biodiversity that make it a truly incomparable site, where visitors can discover or rediscover a certain affinity and contact with nature.
Here are 3 good reasons to visit this unique and truly special territory:
1 -Mesola Wood Nature Reserve
The remains of the ancient forests, now long gone, that once carpeted the plains of the Adriatic coast, Mesola Wood is a nature reserve that will take visitors’ breath away. Its tall trees include the holm oak, tamarisk, maritime pine, oak, willow and poplar. Visitors to the reserve may also hear the call of the dune deer, a protected, autochthonous species that has called these woods home for centuries.
2 - The Valleys of Comacchio
In the Province of Ferrara, the city of Comacchio and its surrounding area represent one of the vastest wetland areas in Italy. This is a landscape that seems truly enchanted, with fresh and saltwater courses, inlets and mists, with bird calls that can be heard in the distance. However, as well as being enchanting, the valleys play a key biological role thanks to the large number of rare and endangered species they are home to, in particular, the pink flamingo.
3 - Birdwatching
With over 300 species of birds, the Po Delta is the best site for birdwatching in Italy and one of the leading areas in Europe. Not enough for you? It is also home to many at-risk species, that can be admired in a unique landscape where nature shines in all its complexity.
